EMDR Therapy for Relationship Anxiety, Conflict, and Emotional Triggers
Healing emotional triggers is about more than “stopping overreacting.” It’s about helping your nervous system feel safer, so you can respond instead of explode, shut down, or pull away.
Benefits of EMDR Therapy:
Understand the deeper roots of your reactions
EMDR gently uncovers where these triggers began (childhood experiences, past relationships, betrayal, bullying, emotional neglect, etc.), so your current reactions start to make sense instead of feeling “crazy” or “too much.”Process and release stored emotional pain
Through EMDR’s structured, evidence-based process, we help your brain reprocess painful memories so they no longer hit you with the same intensity. The goal isn’t to erase the past, but to reduce the emotional charge around it.Create more choice in how you respond
As triggers lose their intensity, you have more space to pause, communicate, and stay present. Instead of spiraling into arguments, stonewalling, or people-pleasing, you can choose responses that fit who you want to be in your relationships.Build safer, more connected relationships
With less reactivity, it becomes easier to set boundaries, express needs, receive care, and repair after conflict. You can feel closer and more secure with partners, family, and friends—without feeling like you’re constantly walking on eggshells.
Does this feel familiar?
Avoidance of people, places, feelings, or conversations that remind you of past trauma?
Heightened arousal and reactivity (difficulty sleeping, hypervigilance, exaggerated startle response, irritability)?
Negative beliefs about yourself or the world such as “I am damaged,” “I can’t trust anyone,” “The world is unsafe.”
You feel on edge much of the time. Small things set you off, or you’re constantly scanning for danger and intimacy is a struggle.
In our work together, we will stay curious with your inner world, make peace with your past, reprocess the memories that are keeping you stuck, and allow you to create the life and relationships that you want, at a pace that works best for YOU!

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a trauma-focused therapy that helps people process disturbing memories by briefly recalling them while simultaneously focusing on guided eye movements or other bilateral stimulation. This dual attention helps the brain “re-file” painful memories so they feel less intense and less triggering in the present.
There are 8 phases involved in EMDR Therapy:
Step 1. History Taking & Treatment Planning – We will review your background, current concerns, and choose target memories to work on.
Step 2. Preparation – You’ll learn about EMDR, build coping skills, and practice ways to feel safe and grounded in the present.
Step 3. Assessment – You’ll identify the specific memory, the negative belief that you developed about yourself, the the desired positive belief, emotions, and body sensations.
Step 4. Desensitization – You’ll focus on the memory while doing bilateral stimulation such as eye movements or tapping so the distress decreases.
Step 5. Installation – You’ll strengthen a positive belief about yourself in the present while continuing bilateral stimulation.
Step 6. Body Scan – You’ll notice any remaining tension or discomfort in your body linked to the memory that still needs to be released.
Step 7. Closure – I make sure you return to a state of stability before you leave each session, through grounding tools so you can feel stable and supported in between sessions.
8. Reevaluation – At the beginning of each EMDR session, we’ll review how you feel about what has already been processed and we’ll decide if more processing on that memory needs to take place, if you are ready for a new target memory, or if you are in a much better place and ready to transition out of therapy.

EMDR focuses less on analyzing a problem and more on helping your brain reprocess traumatic or distressing memories so they no longer feel so triggering in the present.
Unlike other therapies, it does not require talking in detail about a distressing issue or completing homework between sessions.
This is because EMDR uses structured sets of eye movements or other forms of ‘bilateral stimulation’ (like horizontal eye movements or tapping) while you briefly recall the memory. This activates the brain’s natural healing process, so the memory becomes less intense and you can hold more balanced, positive beliefs about yourself in the present.

Some people may feel more emotional, tired, or ‘stirred up’ for a day or two after EMDR sessions. You might notice vivid dreams, stronger feelings, or old memories popping up.
These reactions are usually temporary and a sign that your brain is still processing. The therapy is very interactive, and you are always allowed to stop if anything feels too intense. If this occurs, rest assured that we will slow down and use grounding tools to help you feel safe and steady.

Yes. EMDR can be done safely and effectively over telehealth as this has been done at increasing rates since the COVID pandemic.
When done virtually, we still follow the same 8 phases of treatment and use bilateral stimulation (with the benefit of having online tools available) while you focus on memories or feelings.
Grounding and calming tools, a private space for sessions, and a clear plan for pausing or slowing down if you feel overwhelmed is still routine.

I am currently out-of-network for insurance providers, so sessions are considered out-of-pocket costs as I don’t bill insurance directly.
This offers more privacy, flexibility, and control over your treatment and your EMDR work won’t be limited by a diagnosis, session caps, or insurance company approvals.
If you have out‑of‑network benefits, I am more than happy to provide a superbill so you can submit for reimbursement. Manyclients are able to get reimbursement from their insurance.
Fees for EMDR Therapy are as follows:
$200 for a 50 minute EMDR Therapy Session.
$250 for a 90 minute EMDR Therapy Session
